Sr. Quarry Manager

Role Purpose

An opportunity for an experienced Quarry Manager to lead and manage quarry operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, operational performance, compliance, team leadership, and continuous improvement. The role carries full accountability for quarry operations, balancing customer requirements, production efficiency, cost control, and sustainable site performance.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage all quarry operations to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant production activities.
  • Maintain high operational standards while meeting customer and business requirements.
  • Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Management & Development

  • Manage, coach, and develop a skilled and motivated workforce.
  • Build capability and succession within the team to support business continuity.
  • Deliver regular safety briefings, toolbox talks, and operational communications.
  • Maintain training plans and an up-to-date training matrix.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Maintain and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Report, investigate, and address unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Conduct contractor and visitor inductions in line with company requirements.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Quarry Regulations 1999 and support Reg 8.1(d) responsibilities.

Production & Technical Management

  • Understand extraction methods and raw material winning processes.
  • Apply knowledge of mineral loading, transport, and processing techniques, including:
    • Crushing
    • Screening
    • Washing
    • Separation
    • Classification
    • Beneficiation
  • Coordinate site operations across crushing, load and haul, asphalt, and maintenance functions.

Asset & Financial Management

  • Oversee plant compliance and preventative maintenance programmes for fixed and mobile equipment.
  • Manage site budgets and financial performance.
  • Monitor and report monthly operational KPI performance.
  • Drive productivity and operational improvement through data-led decision-making.

Working Pattern

  • Monday to Friday (days)
  • Flexibility required to support operational and customer requirements outside standard hours where necessary.

Candidate Profile

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience in Quarrying Operations and/or Asphalt Operations.
  • Experience leading operational teams within an industrial or extractive environment.
  • Strong understanding of production processes, H&S, and environmental standards.

Qualifications (Preferred / Advantageous)

  • Diploma in Quarry Technology or FdSc Extractives Technology
  • SHE NVQ Level 4 / QCF Level 6
  • IOSH and/or NEBOSH certification
  • Geotechnical Level 4 qualification (advantageous)

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Knowledge of quarry extraction and mineral processing techniques.
  • Budget management and KPI reporting experience.
  • Strong IT capability including SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead change effectively.
