About the Role
An exciting permanent opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Radiographer in our Medical Imaging department based at University Hospital Ayr.
This role supports: ✔ A growing service with extended MRI and CT operating hours ✔ Increasing demand across diagnostic modalities ✔ 24/7 service provision, including on-call rota responsibilities (weekends and out-of-hours shifts) ✔ Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care ✔ Potential to work at other sites across NHS Ayrshire & Arran
Working Arrangements
- Flexible and responsive – ability to adapt to ever-changing demands essential
- On-call rota – participation in out-of-hours/weekend duties required (rostered on a 7-day week)
- UK driving licence is essential for this post

From 1 April 2026, full-time hours will reduce to 36 hours/week (prorata for part-time), with no loss of earnings.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a critical role in delivering:
- High-quality diagnostic imaging services for both routine and urgent care
- Support for ranging from emergency to elective cases
- Safe and effective practices in alignment with multidisciplinary teams
- Exposure to multiple imaging sites within the region (not exclusively University Hospital Ayr)

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A BSc (Hons) or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography/Imaging Services
- HCPC registration as a practising radiographer
- Substantial post-qualification experience, preferably in an NHS setting
- Strong commitment to continuing professional development
- Experience with:
- MRI, CT, X-ray, and other imaging modalities
- Supporting urgent and complex diagnostic pathways
Aged care and paediatric radiography experience desirable but not mandatory.
