Job Description

Salary: NHS Band 3: £25,760 - £27,476 per annum

Hours per Week: 37.5 full time & various part time Contract: Permanent

At Portsmouth Hospitals Trust, we are recruiting part-time Senior Radiographic Department Assistants (RDAs) to our X-Ray team.

As the successful candidate, you will work in:

  • X-Ray Departments at Queen Alexandra and
    • Community Sites including:
      • Gosport War Memorial
      • Fareham Community
      • Petersfield Hospitals

Shifts are on a rolling rota system, including:

  • 0700-1500

  • 0830-1630

  • 0900-1700

  • 1200-2000

  • Elective commitment to work a proportion of Bank Holidays over the year, including Christmas and New Year, on a rotational basis.

You will be required to complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of starting your role if you do not already hold this qualification:

  • Supported by induction training.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior RDA, your work involves:

  • Assisting radiographers in the x-ray rooms.
  • Assisting patients through examinations, including:
    • Helping them manoeuvre on the examination table.
    • Providing re-assurance and explanation during the procedure.
  • Assisting with manual handling of patients, including:
    • Lateral transfers from bed/trolley to x-ray table.
  • Moving patients throughout the department and hospital using:
    • Beds
    • Trolleys
    • Wheelchairs
  • Data input into computer systems.
  • Liaising with other wards and departments, both on the phone and face-to-face.
  • Maintaining stock and performing cleaning tasks.
  • Supporting and caring for patients with injuries or severe illness.
  • Supporting setting up and maintaining aseptic fields for procedures.
  • Working reliably on the out-of-hours rota, including occasional night shifts as required.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in care or relevant modules; alternatively evidence of equivalent experience.
  • Strong literal, numeracy, and keyboard skills.
  • Proficiency in ICT skills.
  • Willingness and ability to deliver compassionate, hands-on care in a hospital environment.

Desirable:

  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly.
  • Knowledge of the NHS.
  • Experience:
    • Within a hospital setting.
    • In a diagnetic imaging department.

Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • Strong patient/client care skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • High-performing attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to show confidentiality, trustworthiness, and empathy.
