Job Title

Radiology Department Assistant (Band 2 – developmental to Band 3)


Post Details

  • Band: Band 2 (starting) – progresses to Band 3 upon completion of training
  • Salary: £24,465
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Flexibility: Full-time (or part-time depending on availability)
  • Locations: Queen Alexandra Hospital (main site) and community sites (Gosport, Fareham, Petersfield)

Role Summary

A developmental role within the radiology department, supporting Sonographers and Radiographers in delivering high-quality imaging services to patients across acute hospital and community settings. This role ensures patients receive supportive, efficient, and safe care throughout the diagnostic and interventional process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Support:

    • Assist in preparing patients for imaging exams.
    • Provide compassionate care during procedures, including reassurance for anxious or dependent individuals (varying ages and conditions).
    • Offer post-procedure support and ensure a smooth transition.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work alongside Sonographers/Radiographers in a multi-disciplinary team to maintain a seamless imaging experience.
    • Interact with a diverse range of stakeholders: patients, carers, registered healthcare professionals, social care staff, management, and non-clinical colleagues.
  • Patient Experience & Safety:

    • Uphold Trust values—treating all individuals with respect, dignity, and courtesy.
    • Act within your competency level at all times.
    • Contribute to a positive patient journey while ensuring safety prioritisation.
  • Non-Clinical Aspects (community sites include):

    • Access to transport (or a valid driving licence).

Qualifications

Essential:

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in ICT skills (regular computer use required).
  • Strong desire to deliver compassionate, hands-on patient care in an academic Trust environment.
  • Valid driving licence (or reliable public transport access) due to the community-based locations involved.

Desirable (not compulsory but beneficial):

  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in care studies or relevant supporting qualifications.
  • Clear, articulate communication skills.
  • Familiarity with NHS structures/practices (e.g., NHS Constitution).
  • Additional educational achievements (e.g., GCSE/major key skills).
