THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 8 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Secretary to join the Radiology team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital on a secondment basis until 31 March 2027.

This is a rewarding role within a busy and supportive department, providing an excellent opportunity to further develop your administrative and secretarial skills whilst supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care. As a Band 4 Medical Secretary, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the service, working closely with Consultant Radiologists, clinical colleagues and administrative teams across the Health Board.

We are looking for an organised, motivated and proactive individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will be able to manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a commitment to providing a professional and patient-focused service.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive, confidential and high-quality medical secretarial service to Consultant Radiologists and the wider Radiology team.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and prioritising clinical correspondence
  • Processing reports and documentation
  • Organising and maintaining diaries
  • Responding to patient and professional enquiries
  • Arranging meetings
  • Maintaining accurate patient records

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring administrative processes are completed efficiently and in line with departmental procedures and performance standards.

You will work closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to support patient pathways, assist with workload coordination and help ensure the smooth operation of Radiology services. The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to use initiative when managing a varied workload within a busy environment.

The post holder will also provide guidance and support to colleagues when required, contribute to service improvements and maintain a professional approach when handling sensitive and confidential information.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a patient-centred service while developing your skills within a dynamic and evolving specialty.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • NVQ Business administration L4 or equivalent experience
  • Or City & Guilds (AMSPAR) Level 3 Diploma in Medical administration or equivalent medical secretary experience
  • RSA / OCR level 3 or equivalent experience or qualification in typing
  • ECDL or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

  • Management qualification or working towards
  • NVQ 3 Customer Service

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of coordinating administration activities
  • Experience of working as a medical secretary
  • Experience of organising workload and people

Desirable criteria

  • Previous NHS Experience
