Salary: £43,588 - £53,167

Please note this role requires a minimum of 3 days in an office location.

About The Role

Lead the Rail Management team in delivering the safe and efficient inspection, testing and maintenance of rail assets across the network. You will be responsible for driving operational performance, maintaining compliance with standards, and ensuring asset reliability through effective planning, resource management and technical leadership. Working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders, you will foster a high-performing and engaged team, champion safety and competence, and identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and asset performance.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, develop and motivate the Rail Management team to achieve business objectives, deliver performance targets and maintain the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of inspection, testing and maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with agreed programmes and industry standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance asset reliability, performance, productivity and efficiency across the railway.
  • Provide technical leadership through inspections, investigations and asset condition assessments, ensuring issues are identified, prioritised and resolved effectively.
  • Maintain robust arrangements for staff competence, safety assurance, quality monitoring and accurate record keeping to support compliance and informed decision-making.

Essential

Your experience and skills

  • Proven technical competence in rail management processes, maintenance techniques and asset management.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant railway standards, policies and procedures.
  • An understanding of wider railway functions and how they contribute to operational delivery.
  • Experience working within a live operational railway environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • HNC, HND or an equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of coaching techniques
