Job Description

Your New Role

At Hitachi Rail, we are shaping the future of intelligent transport systems. We’re looking for a Rail Systems Engineer to join our team, working at the forefront of advanced onboard monitoring and data systems across passenger rail vehicles.

This is a multi-disciplinary engineering role combining electronics, software, networking, and system integration, ideal for someone who enjoys working on complex, real-world systems and seeing technology deployed in operational environments.

You will play a key role in the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimisation of integrated electronic systems—helping ensure reliability, performance, and safety across our fleet.

Whether your background is in rail, aerospace, automotive, defence, manufacturing, or industrial systems, this role offers the opportunity to apply your expertise to cutting-edge transport technology.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Install, commission, and support integrated electronic and electro-mechanical systems on passenger vehicles
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across hardware, software, and networked systems
  • Work with onboard technologies such as sensors, data acquisition systems, and monitoring platforms
  • Configure and support systems using Windows and Linux-based environments
  • Interpret schematics, technical drawings, and system documentation
  • Use diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) to support fault finding and validation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, support, and customer teams
  • Provide technical support and guidance to customers, both remotely and on-site
  • Maintain accurate records using tools such as Jira or similar tracking systems
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of technical documentation and processes
  • Participate in an on-call rota to support operational systems when required

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
