About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on R&D Chemist Technician to join our Research & Development team based in Coventry on an 18-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic R&D environment, supporting the development and reformulation of innovative fire stopping and intumescent products for both the European and Global markets. Working closely with the R&D Director and wider technical team, you will play a key role in laboratory formulation, product testing, quality control, and experimental evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and reformulate fire stopping products for European and Global markets.
- Prepare laboratory-scale formulations of fire stopping and intumescent products.
- Carry out laboratory testing, product application assessments and quality control activities.
- Interpret formulation requirements and translate them into practical laboratory formulations.
- Safely operate laboratory equipment including dispersers, mixers, and analytical instruments.
- Accurately measure, record and report analytical data.
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks, documenting experimental methods, results, and conclusions.
- Assist with evaluating product performance and recommending formulation improvements.
- Ensure laboratory activities are conducted safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Support continuous improvement and innovation within the R&D function.

About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys practical laboratory work, has a passion for chemistry, and thrives in a collaborative environment.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year's industrial laboratory experience.
- Background in Chemistry (degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification preferred).
- Experience working within a formulation or product development laboratory.
- Strong practical laboratory skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to accurately record and interpret experimental data.
- Good understanding of laboratory health and safety practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet agreed timelines.
