Introduction into the position
We have an exciting opportunity for an R&D Engineer to join our Vidalert team. Working alongside experienced engineers and researchers, you will play a key role in designing and developing innovative hardware and embedded technology solutions. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to work across electronics design, embedded firmware, communication protocols and edge-computing technologies, contributing to the development of next-generation intelligent traffic and environmental monitoring solutions in a collaborative, agile environment.
What you will be doing:
- Designing, developing and testing analogue and digital electronic systems for new and existing products.
- Developing embedded firmware for microcontroller-based devices and configuring single-board computers for edge computing applications.
- Researching and evaluating electronic components, RF systems, communication technologies and embedded platforms.
- Designing circuits and PCBs using industry-standard electronic design software.
- Collaborating with senior engineers, software developers and project teams to deliver innovative technology solutions.
- Supporting the development, testing and continuous improvement of products through the full R&D lifecycle.

What we are looking for:
- Degree qualified in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Ideally, MSC in an engineering discipline.
- Experience or a strong understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers and firmware development.
- Knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, PCB design and electronic component selection.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, UART and I2C, together with networking fundamentals.
- Experience working with Windows and Linux environments and an interest in wireless communication technologies such as Bluetooth, Zigbee or Thread.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for developing innovative technology.
