Moog Aircraft Group is seeking a Lead Engineer to join our Research and Development team in Tewkesbury, UK, reporting to the R&D Manager. The R&D team is responsible for the development of product technologies typically from TRL 3 to 6, bridging the gap between university research (TRLs 1-3) and New Product Introduction (TRLs 7-9).
You will lead the development of electrohydraulic and electromechanical components, guiding projects from requirements definition and concept development through simulation, validation, and testing. In this highly technical leadership role, you will apply seasoned engineering judgment to evaluate, adapt, and extend both standard and nonstandard design techniques. You will independently create new approaches to complex challenges, coordinate major engineering efforts, and guide cross‑functional engineering teams both internally and including external partners such as universities, funding bodies and other partner businesses.
Please note the internal title for this role is Staff Project Engineer.

Lead the functional analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate evolving customer requirements into components specifications. Effectively communicate these internal design requirements to the other members of the design/project team and partners. Drive the identification, planning, and definition of product development activities. Lead component integration and testing in collaboration with customers/partners, including any anomaly investigations. Create concise reports that describe the design decisions and analysis results. Lead customer engagement for new business opportunities, leveraging model-based design to develop and support technical solutions. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development. From time to time there may be a need for overseas travel.
To be considered for the role, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Systems Engineering; Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the field of Aerospace Engineering (preferred) or adjacent engineering discipline. Proven general capabilities/competencies in Building Strategic Working Relationships, Planning and Organizing, Customer Focus.
To succeed, you’ll also need to have proven experience in the following disciplines as encountered within the Aerospace sector:
Electro-mechanical, Electro-hydraulic control components and systems. Familiarity with servovalve design is preferred Project planning and execution including task definition and estimation Development of simulation and/or sizing tools (e.g. Excel, MathCAD, MatLab/Simulink) Working knowledge of analysis tools/techniques, such as magnetic analysis, computation fluid dynamics, finite element analysis. 3D design and 2D drawing standards Aerospace materials and their properties Common machining and fabrication processes Design assurance test methods Aerospace design configuration control and quality systems
