Religious Education (RE) Teacher / RE ECT – Permanent Position

A "Good"-graded comprehensive school and sixth form in Newham are seeking an ambitious Religious Education Teacher (RE Teacher) / RE ECT to join their department for a September 2026 start. This is a permanent, full-time role, paid on the Inner London Scale. Teaching and Leadership Responsibility (TLR) options are available for experienced candidates looking to progress their career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach RE lessons across multiple year groups, ensuring excellence in lesson delivery.
  • Develop, implement, and review the RE curriculum.
  • Support whole-school RE policy and best practice in RE engagement.
  • Mentor NQTs (if eligible) and maintain strong interpersonal relationships.

Location & Terms

  • Borough: Newham
  • Start Date: September 2026
  • Position: Full-time (Permanent)
  • Salary: MPS1–UPS3 (Inner London scale) + TLR options (dependent on experience).
  • Interviews will take place immediately after the Easter holidays. Due to the September placement, lesson observations can be arranged now.

Person Specification: RE Teacher / RE ECT

EssentialRequirements

  • Hold or be in process of gaining UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Meet or exceed the 8 Teaching Standards at ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ levels.
  • Strong academic record (Degree, A-Levels, and GCSEs).
  • In-depth subject knowledge in RE, with an ability to teach complex concepts effectively.
  • Open to feedback and a drive to reflect and improve practice.
