Reactive General Maintenance Operative
About The Role
We are looking for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our UKCS Living Places business based in Aylesbury, working on the Buckinghamshire Highways contract.
In this role, you will be part of the Highways Revenue Team, delivering essential maintenance services across the local road network. You will play a key role in ensuring that highways are safe, functional and maintained to the highest standards, supporting both planned and reactive works.
This is a hands-on, operational role involving a mix of routine, emergency and seasonal maintenance activities, including winter service delivery. You will be expected to work safely, efficiently and collaboratively at all times, contributing to high-quality service delivery for the local community.
What you'll be doing
Carrying out a wide range of highways maintenance activities including routine, cyclical and reactive works Responding to emergency situations, making sites safe and carrying out temporary or permanent repairs Supporting winter maintenance operations, including gritting and severe weather response Working in line with strict health, safety and quality standards, ensuring compliance at all times Using plant, tools and equipment effectively and safely to complete tasks Following work instructions via handheld devices and completing work to agreed programmes Selecting appropriate methods to ensure work is completed right first time Contributing to efficient use of resources to support overall service performance Communicating with members of the public and stakeholders regarding works being carried out Maintaining a professional and courteous approach, acting as an ambassador for the business Reporting observations, close calls and good practices to support a strong safety culture Working collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors and wider teams to deliver operational objectives

Key Qualities

Desirable Experience
Highways or civil engineering works such as drainage, concreting or kerbing Road maintenance activities including pothole repairs and patching Use of plant and equipment within a highways environment Driving and winter service operations
Qualifications (training Can Be Provided Where Required)
Relevant site or safety certifications such as NRSWA, CSCS or First Aid Plant or equipment-related certifications Additional licences or qualifications in highways or construction activities are advantageous
