Receptionist/ Administrator
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We have embarked on our 10-year strategy to end homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.
Location
Crisis Skylight Edinburgh Cranston House, 271 Canongate, EH8 8BQ
Note: This is an onsite role.
Salary: £30,818 per annum
Receptionist/Administrator – Edinburgh Skylight
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Edinburgh Skylight team as a Receptionist/Administrator. Your role will be essential in supporting people experiencing homelessness by welcoming them and initiating the process of ending their homelessness.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing the first point of welcome to individuals seeking advice and assistance, offering support and guidance.
- Assisting the team in managing a fast-paced environment, engaging with a diverse range of people including:
- New members of Skylight
- Existing members
- Staff
- Crisis volunteers
- Visitors
- Offering administrative support to ensure smooth operations in a service that responds quickly to newly homeless individuals.
- Carrying out reception and housekeeping functions, including:
- Maintenance of the customer service environment
- Facilities management at Cranston House
- Operating onsite with no homeworking options available.
About You
To excel in this role, you will bring the following qualities and experience:

- High degree of organisation and experience in a reception or administrative support role.
- Strong customer service skills, ensuring a consistent high standard of support.
- An understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness.
- Resilience and adaptability when dealing with challenging situations, diverse needs, and individuals.
- Outcomes-focused mindset, ensuring positive resolutions through calm, professional, and confident communication.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), able to engage effectively with:
- Homeless populations and socially excluded individuals.
- Team members across various functions.
- Collaboration skills to work cohesively within the team, while being a first-point contact for many individuals.
- A friendly approach, enjoyment in assisting others, and willingness to learn about Crisis’s work and the building’s activities.
