Receptionist Role

The receptionist is the first point of contact for patients and visitors attending the practice. The postholder will provide a professional, friendly, and efficient reception service, ensuring patients receive excellent customer care while supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the practice.

What you'll do at work

  • Greet patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and direct enquiries appropriately.
  • Manage patient appointments using the clinical system.
  • Check patients in for appointments and notify clinicians of patient arrivals when required.
  • Deal with patient enquiries both face-to-face and via telephone.
  • Signpost patients to appropriate services.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service.
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively.
  • Respond appropriately to vulnerable or distressed patients.
  • Manage concerns at first point of contact and escalate where necessary.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Comply with GDPR and practice policies.
  • Always ensure secure handling of patient information.
  • Complete mandatory Information Governance training.
  • Comply with health and safety policies.
  • Report hazards and incidents promptly.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy reception environment.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence where appropriate.
  • Support the practice in achieving its objectives and delivering high-quality patient care.
