Hotel Receptionist – The Odney Hotel, Cookham
About The Role
As a Hotel Receptionist at one of our stunning Partnership hotels, you'll play a crucial role in managing reception duties while working as part of a dedicated team. Your job is to ensure guests receive a first-class experience while handling essential administration tasks for the hotel and its Partners.
The Odney Hotel is a unique, John Lewis Partnership-owned hotel situated on 130 acres beside the River Thames in Cookham, Berkshire. Known for its charm and character, the property offers refined luxury accompanied by rich history.
Guests can enjoy staying in one of five beautiful period homes, each preserving its original style, with access to stunning grounds including:
- Private river frontage
- Water gardens
- Swimming pool and sports facilities
- Iconic landmark Lullebrook Manor, legendary as the inspirational site for The Wind In The Willows
- Relaxation on the terrace with afternoon tea, cocktails in the bar, or river views over dinner
Key Responsibilities
This role combines variety with essential day-to-day tasks, including:
- Managing hotel bookings, spa treatments, and activities (varies by location)
- Serving as the primary guest contact point, handling check-in/check-out procedures and resolving queries/complaints efficiently
- Embracing the opportunity to upsell memberships, events, and Partners’ services to enhance guest satisfaction
- Ensuring every guest enjoys a exceptional stay through dedicated, professional service

Essential Requirements
To thrive in this position, you should possess:
- Proven experience in customer-facing roles, especially within hospitality or customer service
- Strong numeracy skills and proficiency in computer software applications
- Excellent organisational ability capable of managing multitasking while engaging constructively with all levels of stakeholders
Desirable qualifications for greater relevance:
- Any experience or knowledge of hotel operations will be advantageous
