Job Overview
A vacancy has arisen for a part-time receptionist (30 hours per week) in our Respiratory Outpatients Department at the Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Bath.
We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, and proactive Receptionist(s), with exceptional multi-tasking and communication skills to assist in covering a busy reception area.
We are looking for candidates who have good computer skills, a cheerful and proactive approach, and multi-tasking skills due to ever-changing priorities. An approachable, professional person with exceptional organisational skills and the ability to learn would suit this post.
Main duties of the job
As a key member of the outpatient team, you will work on the front reception desk alongside a Healthcare Assistant (HCA), providing a welcoming, professional, and compassionate service to patients and visitors. Many of the patients attending the department may be undergoing investigations for a potential cancer diagnosis or living with a life-limiting condition, so empathy, sensitivity, and excellent communication skills are essential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing patient information on the hospital Patient Administration System (Millennium)
- Booking and coordinating appointments
- Handling telephone enquiries from patients, GPs, and other healthcare professionals
- Arranging patient transport
- Undertaking a range of administrative duties to support the smooth running of the service

We are looking for someone who is highly organised, customer-focused, and able to work effectively in a busy environment. Flexibility is important, as you will be expected to provide cover for reception colleagues during periods of annual leave and unexpected absence.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
