Salary & Benefits
Salary:
- Guaranteed minimum:
- £39,340 for CE (HGV 1) licence
- £35,860 for C (HGV 2) licence
- On Target Earnings:
- £45,435 for CE
- £39,785 for C
Includes a location allowance
Shifts & Flexibility
- Rolling roster: Work 18 days every 28 days, with two full weekends off
- Standard shift duration: 9 hours and 45 minutes, including 45-minute break
- Flexibility required: Mid-shift adjustments may mean working up to 12 hours (including breaks) if operational needs demand it
Location
- Depot postcode: RM15 4YD
- Eligibility: Must live within 25 miles or 1 hour’s travel of the depot
About the Role
As an HGV Recovery Driver at The AA, your role combines technical expertise with exceptional customer service. You’ll work independently to recover vehicles, helping members during breakthrough moments with empathy, resilience, and professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Safely recover vehicles and reassure customers during breakdowns, ensuring they get back on the road quickly
- Operate independently across diverse locations and conditions while remaining part of a supportive team
- Solve on-the-spot issues using technical skills and adaptability to handle varied roadside scenarios
- Operate within EU Regulations and WTD compliance while representing The AA’s brand values
- Push for Better in every situation, embodying professionalism and determination

Requirements
Essential
- Full Category C (HGV Class 2) or CE (HGV Class 1) driving licence (completion support provided for C to CE progression)
- Valid Driver CPC and digital tachograph card
- Flexibility to work shift patterns, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays
- Tech-savvy approach—able to adapt to new tools and technologies
