Recovery Motivator (Lived Experience Role)

The Recovery Motivator is a valued lived experience role within our Drug and Alcohol Service, focused on building meaningful relationships, reducing harm, and supporting sustained recovery. This position is designed to support individuals with personal experience of addiction to re-enter the workforce through a part-time opportunity that builds on their strengths, insights, and skills.
This role sits within our Outreach Team, where you will work as part of a dynamic and experienced group supporting individuals who may be homeless, living in insecure accommodation, hostels, or emergency housing, and who have drug and alcohol support needs.
Lived experience roles are central to our service. Your personal journey and perspective will be highly respected and will play a vital role in engaging and supporting the people we work with.

Hours: 15 hours per week
Contract Type: Fixed Term until 31st March 2027
Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.
In this position, you will
- Contribute to reducing harm, strengthening recovery networks, and developing skills that support both your personal growth and professional development.
- Facilitate needle exchange provision across the city.
- Deliver harm reduction advice.
- Support peer-led recovery activities such as group facilitation, signposting, and one-to-one support.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking someone who
- Is passionate about recovery and helping others.
- Is compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental.
- Is creative and enthusiastic about community engagement.
- Is a positive communicator and relationship-builder.
- Has lived experience of drug and/or alcohol misuse.
- Has experience of or the proven ability to engage service multiple disadvantaged (SMD) services users.
- Has evidence of a commitment to service user involvement and development.
- Has experience of auditing to inform evaluation and service development.
- Has experience of risk assessment and risk management procedures.
- Has knowledge of the issues facing people who are homeless or rough sleeping.
