Salary: £24,796 – £25,185 per annum (A1/2) Hours: 37 per week (2 roles available) Contract: Permanent Location: John Charles Leisure Centre, Leeds

About the Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Recreation Assistant – Pool (Lifeguard) to deliver exceptional service in health, fitness, and leisure. This role requires:
- Strong customer service and motivation skills
- Commitment to safety, adherence to policies, and professional conduct
- Actively contributing to sport and leisure activities
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a professional and efficient lifeguard service in line with:
- Professional codes of conduct
- Leeds City Council policies
- Assist in sport and leisure activities to ensure:
- Customer satisfaction
- Health and safety compliance
- High-quality service delivery
- Successfully supervise swimming pool activities, identifying hazards and responding appropriately under centrifugal guidelines.
- Maintain National Pool Lifeguard qualification (Mandatory)
- Follow Health and Safety protocols, including:
- Administration of First Aid
- Reporting incidents
- Cleaning pool areas (manual/mechanical)
- Erect, safey dismantle, and store equipment
- Support children’s activities and parties adhering to child protection standards
- Contribute to increasing efficiency via better organisational and customer-focused solutions

Key Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Standards
- Must hold and maintain National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
- Proven experience in lifeguarding or related roles
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of child protection and welfare
- Exceptional customer service experience
- Ability to work flexibly, prioritise tasks, and adapt to varied work environments
- First Aid Qualification (if possible)
- Physical fitness to execute emergency duties
- Building fluency with Health and Safety legislation (such as COSHH or HASAWA)

- ASA/UKCC Level 2 Aquatics Certification
- ASA/UKCC Level 1 Aquatics Certification
- Gym Instructor NVQ Level 2 Certification
- Experience in private/public leisure centers
- Skills with specialist lifeguard equipment
