Temple University's Division of Student Affairs is searching for a Recreation Manager.

Salary Range: $47,000 - $50,000

Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director for HSC Operations, the Recreation Manager oversees daily operations of the HSC Recreation Center and intramural sports program within Student Faculty Center Activities & Operations (SFCAO). The role manages recreation services, intramural programming, student staff supervision, facility readiness, equipment needs, customer service, budgets, sales processes, and related billing.

The Recreation Manager ensures the HSC Recreation Center operates as a safe, welcoming, and student-centered environment that supports well-being, belonging, and campus connection for HSC students, faculty, staff, and partners. This position uses participation, satisfaction, and operational data to improve programs, strengthen service delivery, and support departmental planning.

The Recreation Manager also contributes to the SFCAO student employment program by recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating student staff through learning-centered employment practices that promote communication, teamwork, accountability, leadership, and service excellence.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Details

  • This position requires the following background checks: Cash Handling and Personally Identifiable Information background check. This must be completed prior to commencement of service.
  • Offer of employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts between 6:30am-7pm as well as weekends when needed.
  • Be on-call as needed depending on event needs.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least two (2) years of experience working in Campus Recreation, Sports Administration, Recreation Management, Physical Education, or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in higher education environment.

Required Skills And Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated customer service and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Windows OS.
  • Excellent time and organizational skills, along with the ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, parents, and staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the willingness and ability to interact with a diverse group of internal and external clients.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to translate and communicate the mission of a complex, urban university.
  • Ability to persuasively represent University goals to various constituency groups.
  • Ability to multi-task and focus on completion of tasks and objectives while under stress of demanding work schedule.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and objective approach and attitude, even when confronted with difficult situations.
