Recycling Assistant

Salary – £12.71 per hour plus benefits
Hours – 40 hours per week, working on a shift pattern across the week
Location – New Romney HWRC, TN28 8JL

As a Recycling Assistant at FCC Environment, you will help deliver a safe, efficient and customer-focused Recycling Centre service. You will support members of the public with their waste disposal, actively encourage reuse and recycling, and help maintain high standards across the site.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working across a shift pattern to meet site requirements.

What will you be doing?

  • Operating the Recycling Centre safely and efficiently in line with company procedures and contract requirements
  • Delivering a safe and efficient Recycling Centre service
  • Providing excellent customer service to site users
  • Encouraging reuse and recycling to maximise recycling rates
  • Completing daily site inspections and maintaining accurate records
  • Recording waste and recyclable movements using site systems
  • Monitoring container usage and reporting requirements
  • Carrying out plant and equipment checks
  • Identifying chargeable waste and following the correct procedures
  • Wearing PPE correctly and maintaining site safety standards

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in a customer-facing role is desirable but not essential
  • Experience in waste, recycling or a Recycling Centre environment would be advantageous
  • An interest in recycling, sustainability and reuse initiatives
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A positive and proactive approach
  • Good timekeeping and reliability
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work weekends and Bank Holidays
  • Flexibility to work across Mid & East Kent Recycling Centres when required
