Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council,
We are seeking 6 dedicated Recycling Support Officers to engage directly with residents, through a programme of community engagement activities aimed at reducing contamination and increasing recycling.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly created Waste Client team, who have a clear ambition to reduce waste, increase recycling and support the borough's environmental and sustainability goals.

In this role, you will:
- Work on-site in communities, providing face-to-face support and guidance on recycling practices
- Educate residents on correct waste disposal to minimise contamination and improve recycling rates
- Monitor and report on waste collection issues, identifying areas for improvement
- Support the rollout of government-driven waste management changes, ensuring compliance with new regulations
- Act as the first point of contact for waste-related enquiries, helping to resolve concerns and reduce complaints

Essential Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A good standard of education to GCSE and A level equivalent, particularly in English and Maths
- Experience in community engagement, waste management, or customer service
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with residents
- Ability to work outdoors in the community, visiting households and monitoring waste collection issues
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address recycling challenges
- A proactive and positive approach to behaviour change and public engagement
The Postholder will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS Check for this post.
