We’re BirdLife International, the only global Partnership conserving birds and all life on our planet. We exist to give one voice to nature, and to unite and strengthen conservation across borders.
We are looking for a Red List Assessor on a part-time basis to join our Science Division, to contribute to BirdLife’s vital work on evaluating and documenting the extinction risk of the world’s birds.
How you will do this:
By working closely with other members of BirdLife’s Red List team, you will apply the IUCN Red List Criteria and Guidelines to assess the extinction risk of bird species. By collating, analysing and evaluating information from a wide variety of sources, liaising with species experts within and beyond the BirdLife Partnership. By synthesising this information in clear, concise written summaries in the Red List database, and in topics proposing changes to the status of relevant species.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
