REF Impact Evidence and Evaluation Manager
REF Impact Evidence and Evaluation Manager (Hybrid)

Contract Type: Fixed-term Salary: £43,482 to £46,049 per annum (pro rata on Grade F) Location: Exeter | Hybrid Work Pattern: Full-time or part-time (minimum 0.8 FTE) Start Date: August 2026 End Date: July 2027
About the Role
This key position within the Performance and REF team focuses on:
- Coordinating the University’s submission to national research evaluations (REF), including policy development
- Leading impact assessment, performance monitoring, and insights for REF2029 preparation
- Optimising research and impact evidence systems, enhancing data-driven decision-making
This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in institutional research strategy, working closely with senior leaders to shape evidence-based policies.
What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities
- Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration to collect and evaluate research impact evidence
- Develop policies and processes to sustain excellence in research and impact measurement
- Deliver evidence-based insights to policymakers, driving institutional improvement
- Enhance research performance monitoring tools, ensuring their alignment with REF criteria
- Champion Data Protection and Information Governance best practices
Essential Criteria
- Forged experience in research impact, evaluation, or REF operations
- Skilled in using notices of impact (e.g. case study preparation), analytics, or digital tools
- Demonsatrate a deep understanding of how research impacts society, industry, or policy
- Can capture skills progression effectively through systems, shining a light on outcomes
- Talent in stakeholder relationship management, building confidence through collaborative solutions
- Affinity for higher education research dynamics and regulatory change
- Attention to detail combined with flexibility for independent problem-solving
