DEPT OF EMERGENCY AND MILITARY AFFAIRS
THE DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY & MILITARY AFFAIRS (DEMA), LED BY THE ADJUTANT GENERAL, PROVIDES EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND MILITARY CAPABILITIES TO THE CITIZENS OF ARIZONA AND THE NATION. THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIVISION CONSISTS OF THREE SECTIONS—OPERATIONS, PREPAREDNESS, AND FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION. EACH SECTION WORKS COLLABORATIVELY ACROSS THE AGENCY AND WITH EXTERNAL PARTNERS TO MANAGE EMERGENCY RESPONSES AND REDUCE THE IMPACTS OF DISASTERS. ADDITIONALLY, DEMA IS THE HEADQUARTERS FOR THE ARIZONA NATIONAL GUARD, THE PRIMARY COMBAT RESERVE OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY. THE ARIZONA ARMY AND AIR NATIONAL GUARD PROVIDE MILITARY FORCES AND EQUIPMENT TO ACCOMPLISH COMMUNITY, STATE, AND FEDERAL MISSIONS.
REFRIGERATION MECHANIC

SALARY: UP TO $21.5021 PER HOUR (DOE)
GRADE: 17

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of a Physical Plant Supervisor, the Refrigeration Mechanic installs, maintains, and repairs the heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation equipment for facilities under the care of the Arizona Army National Guard in the Central region, which include the areas of Phoenix, Buckeye, and Florence. Position will occasionally utilize and supervise inmate labor to assist in maintenance and service functions. May also be required to transport inmates to and from different job sites.
Job Duties:
Responsibilities include:
- Perform preventative maintenance procedures on HVAC systems, to include troubleshooting, order repair parts and making repairs.
- Installation of HVAC equipment per code and/or oversee contracted installations.
- Maintain and install HVAC systems at remote Readiness Center locations in Prescott, Show Low, Flagstaff and Bellemont using state provided vehicle.
- Maintain work vehicle, work area, and replacement parts
- Keep accurate records of work performed, fills in time sheets, expense vouchers, travel claims, vehicle reports, or other routine agency required reports. Confers with supervisors, present and resolves difficult problems and discuss plans and actions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
- Troubleshooting different types of HVAC equipment and components that support them, electrically, relays, circuitry and the controls which activate refrigeration units.
- Reading and understanding blueprints and schematics of electrical circuits to analyze refrigeration malfunctions using performance and test equipment.
- Codes, standards, and regulations pertaining to the repair, modification and replacement of HVAC services, fixtures, and apparatus.
- Operation of specialized building automation, HVAC controls, and their respective systems.
- Must have extensive knowledge of safety procedures in working with or near potentially dangerous high voltage services.
Skilled in:
- Refrigeration mechanics and be able to utilize electrical and HVAC diagnostic equipment.
- Electrical mechanics and use of electrical diagnostic equipment.
- The use of various HVAC manual tools, including but not limited to drills, grinders, sanders, sheet metal shears, saws, and welding torches.
- Maintaining and repairing various types of building automation and energy controls.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting repairs of various electronic controls and systems utilizing test meters and schematics.
Ability to:
- Build, from components, electrical service entrance sections from 50 to 1500 amps.
- Make mechanical estimates from blueprints and specifications.
- Troubleshoot mechanical components, including HVAC equipment
- Analyze electrical/mechanical malfunctions using performance and test equipment.
- Diagnose defective printed circuit boards, estimate repair costs, and customize electrical designs.
- Work outdoors and in different climatic conditions, as well as indoors in confined quarters and to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Work with and around inmate labor.

- This position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid Arizona state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
- Individual is required to pass a criminal background investigation.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background investigation as well as possess the ability to achieve a favorable Tier 3 investigation for the purpose of obtaining/maintaining a Secret clearance eligibility and Common Access Card (CAC).
- Requires the possession of a Universal EPA Certificate
