Refrigeration Reliability Manager

Operations is at the heart of everything Amazon does, and reliability is one of the ways we optimise our processes. The Amazon Reliability Maintenance and Engineering (RME) team keeps all our equipment—from printers to fully automated sortation systems—in excellent working order.

About the Role

As a Refrigeration Reliability Manager, you’ll ensure that our expanding fleet of refrigeration systems operates at peak efficiency, enabling customers to receive their orders on time. You will serve as the technical expert for commercial refrigeration systems across Amazon’s expanding European market.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Driving standardisation, reliability improvements, and technical excellence across multiple facilities while ensuring optimal performance and compliance with food safety standards
  • Leading Amazon RME towards World Class Maintenance in refrigeration operations

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Create, innovate, and drive projects to deliver reliability, ergonomic, cost, and resource-use benefits at a European-wide scale
  • Increase standardisation within the network of refrigeration systems and design for future delivery stations
  • Optimise existing equipment/processes and support the expansion of new equipment/processes from concept to deployment
  • Author and chair reports/ business case reviews to document project status and changes with senior leadership
  • Communicate reliability program status & outputs to senior leaders periodically
  • Define strategy for a long-term roadmap
  • Implement EU Engineering validated standards and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and equipment availability for internal customers, with a focus on predictive & preventative maintenance programs

A Day in the Life

Your work will be diverse:

  • Spend time at delivery stations, learning from engineers in RME
  • Work on design standards for next-generation refrigeration systems
  • Develop new Material Handling Equipment (MHE) concepts to improve reliability
  • Manage large-scale deployment projects across delivery stations
  • Collaborate with colleagues from Operations, Process Improvement, Health & Safety, Ergonomics, Finance, Procurement, Central & Field Reliability, and external vendors to design, deploy, and enhance refrigeration systems
  • Requires strong autonomy, ability to work in ambiguity, and the management of a large number of diverse stakeholders
  • Lead communication with executors, project sponsors, and senior leaders through detailed, technical, and business reporting

About The Team

Amazon Logistics aims to build a world-class last-mile operation, ensuring customer orders arrive quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively.

The Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team keeps Amazon’s equipment performing at its peak. It is a technically skilled group, composed of excellent team players and experienced leaders, focused on reducing downtime across delivery stations to ensure Amazon’s customers receive their orders promptly.

This role can be based at any Amazon Logistics (AMZL) delivery station or corporate office across the EU.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule (including weekends, nights, and holidays)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent, or experience from a technical internship
  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design
  • Fluent in English (speaking, writing, and reading) with the ability to receive directions in English
  • 5+ years of experience working with commercial refrigeration systems
  • Experience working with designs of complex automated material, handling equipment, and systems (e.g., robotics, high-speed manufacturing)
  • Experience with project management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or equivalent STEM field
  • Experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma, and other operations engineering tools
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with experience working for Amazon or any Amazon subsidiary/affiliate
  • Comprehensive knowledge of specialised engineering and facilities equipment in the AMZL world, including maintenance and safety procedures
  • Experience working with PLC-based control systems
