Working Arrangements & Benefits

  • Hours: 80 hours per fortnight (part-time equivalent to full-time 40 hours over 2 weeks)
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Salary: £30,917 – £35,240 per annum (pay award pending)

About the Team

We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to:

  • Supervise a collection team delivering recycling and refuse services efficiently and safely.
  • Manage allocated vehicles and resources in line with the Council’s operational standards.

About the Role

As Refuse & Recycling Team Leader, your key responsibilities include:

  • Leadership & Supervision

    • Oversee team members to ensure high performance, productivity, and customer-focused service delivery.
    • Requires strong judgement, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Operational Decision-Making

    • Make daily decisions to meet Council service delivery targets.
    • Collaborate with staff and members of the public for seamless operations.
  • Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure staff adhere to Council policies, health & safety standards, and safe systems of work.

About You – Essential Requirements

Candidates must possess:

  • Health & Safety awareness (including manual handling training).
  • EU Category C driving licence (valid).
  • Ability to work flexible hours (additional shifts may be required).
  • Knowledge of refuse/recycling collection methods.
  • Relevant experience driving LGVs (with a focus on safety).
  • Strong oral/written communication skills (clear recording/ documentation).
  • Ability to maintain high standards in service delivery and compliance (especially health & safety).

Preferred Skills & Experience

Ideally, candidates will have:

  • Experience working with the public to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Proven track record in team supervision, conflict resolution, and staff management.
  • Route experience in routine service decision-making within established procedures.
  • Proficiency in data recording, IT systems (including mobile solutions), and information processing.
