This role is required to deliver a quality service, ensuring safe, efficient and effective waste collection and transportation operations contributing to a greener, cleaner city. Operating a range of vehicles up to HGV Class 2 waste vehicles, maintaining compliant drivers Certificate of Professional Competence and digital Tachograph card.

Two vacancies have become available for Refuse Driver (HGV) within our Street Scene and Waste department.

Responsibilities

  • To operate in line with operator (O) licence requirements including relevant driving regulations and working time rules.
  • To contribute, individually and as part of the team to the delivery of a high quality, professional collection service to all domestic properties as directed.
  • To ensure that that all collections are completed on the designated day in a professional and courteous manner.
  • To report any contaminated bins or access issues to a Team Leader.
  • To strictly adhere to all relevant Health & Safety legislation, Safe working practices and procedures within both Plymouth City Council premises and their partners.
  • General supervision and responsibility for collection crew health, safety and wellbeing where appropriate.
  • To wear designated uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as provided by the service, reporting any defects immediately for replacement.
  • To ensure that collections are carried out in a safe and tidy manner, that spilt or spilled waste has been cleared and that containers are returned in a presentable fashion at the collection point.
  • There may be operational requirements to work as an operative collecting bins.
  • Responsibility for customer service and upholding the reputation of Plymouth City Council through the delivery of a frontline critical service.
  • To undertake any appropriate training as and when required.

  • Full driving license including HGV Category C Driving Licence.
  • Current Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Valid digital tachograph.

You will normally be required to work 37 hours per week, over a 4 day period Monday - Thursday.

This will be worked subject to the needs of your employing department and subjected to change on Bank-holidays.

If your working week involves shift changes to support other departments, rota weekend or seasonal arrangements, a detailed breakdown of your working hours will be provided separately by your line manager.
