We’re delighted that you’re interested in working with us. You’d be joining us at a pivotal and exciting time, as we deliver an ambitious programme of regeneration, infrastructure and economic growth across Gateshead.

We pride ourselves on being ambitious, forward-thinking and committed to making a real difference for our communities. At Gateshead Council, you’ll be part of a team that values your contribution, supports innovation and promotes a positive work/life balance.

Supporting services that make a difference to our communities

The Economy, Innovation and Growth Group is leading the delivery of major investment programmes that are reshaping Gateshead’s Urban Core.

This is a complex, high-profile portfolio, spanning regeneration, transport, energy and placemaking, delivered in partnership with a wide range of public and private sector organisations. As a Portfolio Manager, you will operate at the heart of this programme, helping to coordinate activity, manage interdependencies and ensure delivery is aligned, prioritised and effective.

This is a unique opportunity to influence large-scale change and support outcomes that will have a lasting impact on the borough.

What You Will Get To Do

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the coordination of the Urban Core programme across its full lifecycle, from business case development through delivery to closure
  • Establish and maintain a single, integrated view of sequencing and dependencies across the Urban Core Investment Plan
  • Coordinate and align activity across multiple sub-programmes, working closely with Programme Delivery Leads and ensuring alignment with strategic frameworks and business cases
  • Identify, manage and communicate dependencies across a wide range of internal services and functions
  • Maintain a consolidated portfolio-level view of risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies
  • Provide high-quality portfolio intelligence to support governance, assurance, reporting and escalation through the PMO
  • Make clear, evidence-based recommendations on prioritisation across the portfolio, ensuring these are reflected in delivery plans and communicated effectively
  • Support governance and assurance processes, including contributing to boards and ensuring compliance with assurance frameworks
  • Support programme teams in the preparation and progression of business cases through the appropriate governance routes
  • Represent the portfolio in meetings and governance settings, working collaboratively with stakeholders and partners

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
