Regional Commercial Director

Location: Purfleet, Essex
Reports To: Group Commercial Director

PURPOSE

The Regional Commercial Director is responsible for driving revenue growth, profitability, market share and customer retention across the Southern Region. The role goes beyond traditional sales leadership. The successful candidate will become Hireco’s commercial leader within the region, developing deep market knowledge, building long-term customer relationships and acting as the eyes and ears of the business. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the transport, logistics and fleet sectors, ensuring Hireco is aware of emerging opportunities, market movements, competitor activity and customer requirements before they become visible to the wider market.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Commercial Strategy & Performance

  • Develop and implement the regional commercial strategy in line with Group objectives.
  • Deliver regional revenue, profitability and market share targets.
  • Maintain accountability for regional commercial performance.
  • Identify and secure growth opportunities across trailers, trucks, LCVs and associated services.
  • Support the development of long-term strategic growth plans.

Sales & Business Development

  • Lead and develop the regional sales and account management function.
  • Drive new business acquisition with a focus on long-term contract hire and rental opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Lead major tender submissions, commercial negotiations and contract renewals.
  • Ensure maximum penetration of existing customer accounts.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers throughout the region.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships with customers and prospects.
  • Maintain regular contact with strategic accounts regardless of current trading activity.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for commercial issues.
  • Ensure exceptional customer retention and satisfaction levels.

Market Intelligence & Regional Leadership

  • Develop an unrivalled understanding of the Southern transport and logistics market.
  • Create and maintain a detailed regional account map covering major fleet operators, logistics providers, retailers and transport companies.
  • Maintain relationships with customers, prospects, manufacturers, dealers, maintenance providers and industry influencers.
  • Identify future opportunities, fleet replacement programmes, acquisitions, tender opportunities and market developments.
  • Monitor competitor activity, pricing strategies and market movements.
  • Provide monthly market intelligence reports to the Executive Team.
  • Ensure Hireco maintains visibility and influence throughout the region.
  • Act as the primary source of commercial market intelligence for Southern England.
  • Develop relationships with target accounts even where Hireco currently has no business.

Operational Alignment

  • Work closely with Operations, Fleet, Maintenance and Engineering teams.
  • Ensure customer expectations are consistently exceeded.
  • Support fleet utilisation and asset performance objectives.
  • Ensure seamless mobilisation and implementation of new contracts.

Governance & Risk

  • Ensure all commercial activities comply with company policies and governance requirements.
  • Manage commercial risk appropriately.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement.

Experience

Significant experience within a senior commercial leadership role.

  • Proven track record of revenue growth and business development success.
  • Experience within transport, logistics, fleet management, truck leasing or trailer leasing sectors.
  • Experience leading regional sales teams and managing major customer relationships.
  • Strong understanding of contract hire and fleet operations.

  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Deep understanding of transport and logistics markets.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building capabilities.
