AECOM is currently seeking a Regional Director – Fire Engineering. This is a consultancy-based position, so demonstrable experience in a range of sectors and technical fire engineering applications within a client-focused environment is required.

You will be responsible for overseeing and developing a team of fire engineers within the UK. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

This position will be well suited to:

  • An established consultant looking to take the next step
  • Someone with a desire to work in a multi-disciplinary design consultancy
  • Those who want to join a well-respected and established fire safety consultancy.

What you’ll do

People

  • Lead and manage the team in terms of workload management, project delivery, and performance
  • Oversee the successful delivery of large, complex projects, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and client expectations
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and national leadership to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standard of quality
  • Lead Performance & Review processes, setting and monitoring SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) goals for team members
  • Conduct and participate in staff appraisals and ensure professional development plans (PDPs) are developed and acted upon
  • Train and mentor team members to ensure technical development aligns with growth objectives
  • Provide specialised technical input to studies and project designs across the portfolio
  • Support and mentor less-experienced staff on the journey towards Chartership

Projects

  • Provide budget and schedule estimates for fire engineering on large, complex projects
  • Lead the delivery of mid- to large-size projects across the national and international landscapes
  • Become an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier, shaping the strategic direction of projects
  • Become an AECOM Approved Project Manager and act as a project approver
  • Take the lead in delivering technical client relationships and play a key role in attracting new business/clients
  • Maintain quality standards, ensuring client requirements are met on time and within budget

Business

  • Ensure compliance with AECOM Health & Safety policies—both in the workplace and during off-site activities (e.g., meetings, training, site visits)
  • Strengthen and maintain client relationships
  • Represent AECOM’s Fire Engineering business to secure new internal and external clients, driving effective growth
  • Support the national team in achieving KPIs
  • Develop and implement a recruitment strategy and business plan to expand the fire engineering teams
  • Partner in creating/professing marketing strategies, focusing on interactive and collaborative client engagement
  • Contribute to the Fire Team Business Plan, implementing initiatives across the division

Qualifications: Ready to Push the Limits of What’s Possible?

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in fire engineering projects within the UK
  • Proven ability to operate successfully in a large, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK guidance documents and standards, including:
    • ADB (approved documents for building regulations)
    • BS 9991, BS 9999, BS 9992, HTM 05-02, and BB100
  • Proficiency in fire engineering tools, such as FDS, SFE (Structural Fire Engineering), and evacuation modelling software
  • Membership in professional institutions, such as MIFireE (Member of the Institution of Fire Engineering), or certifications from NFPA (e.g., CFPE)

Preferred Qualifications

  • UK or other nationalities considered (open to global talent)
  • Security clearance (can be fast-tracked if eligible)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the Institution of Fire Engineering
  • Advanced proficiency in fire engineering tools (primary attitudes include FDS, structural fire safety, and evacuation modelling)
  • MSc or PhD in a fire-related discipline
  • International experience with standards like IBC (International Building Code), SFPE, and NFPA
