AECOM is currently seeking a Regional Director - Fire Engineering. This is a consultancy-based position so demonstrable experience in a range of sectors and technical fire engineering applications within a client-focused environment is required.
You will be responsible for overseeing and developing a team of fire engineers within the UK. Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
This position will be well suited to an established consultant looking to take the next step or someone with a desire to work in multi-disciplinary design consultancy and wants to join a well-respected and established fire safety consultancy.
Your Role
People
- Lead and manage the team in terms of workload management, project delivery, and performance.
- Oversee the successful delivery of large, complex projects, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and client expectations.
- Collaborate with multi-discipline teams and national leadership to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standard.
- Lead Performance & Review processes for the team by setting and monitoring SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) goals for team members.
- Carry out staff appraisals of direct reports and ensure they do the same for their subordinates in line with AECOM’s Performance & Review process.
- Participate in the development of professional development plans for staff and encourage expansion of expertise across different sectors.
- Assist in training and mentoring of staff to develop technical skills in line with Personal Development Plans (PDPs).
- Provide specialised technical input to studies and designs across the portfolio.
- Support and mentor less experienced staff on the road to Chartership.

Projects
- Provide estimates for the fire engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large, complex projects.
- Lead project delivery on mid to large-scale projects nationally and internationally.
- Become an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier, providing strategic direction for projects.
- Become an AECOM Approved Project Manager, acting as project approver.
- Lead technical client relationships and play a major role in attracting new work/clients.
- Ensure that quality work is maintained and delivered on time and within budget.
Business
- Ensure implementation of all AECOM Health & Safety policies in the workplace and during out-of-office activities (e.g., meetings, training, site visits).
- Maintain strong client relationships.
- Promote AECOM and its Fire Engineering business, generating additional business both internally and externally.
- Support the national team in achieving its KPIs.
- Develop and support a recruitment strategy and business plan for national fire teams.
- Develop and assist in implementing a marketing strategy with a focus on interactive and collaborative communications with clients.
- Participate in the development of the Fire Team Business Plan and implement policies across the fire team.

Requirements & Qualifications
Essential Requirement:
- Demonstrable experience in working on fire engineering projects in the UK.
- Extensive experience working in large, multi-disciplinary environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UK fire engineering standards such as:
- ADB (Approved Documents B)
- BS 9991, BS 9999, BS 9992
- HTM 05-02 (e.g., healthcare guidance)
- BB100 (.globally applicable Building Regulations for visitor accommodation)
- Proficiency in fire engineering tools like FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator), SFE, and evacuation modelling software.
- Membership in a professional institution such as MIFireE or equivalency with NFPA certifications (e.g., CFPE).

Preferred:
- UK or other nationalities considered.
- Ability to obtain security clearance.
- Chartered Engineer (Chartered Fire Engineer, CEng) with the Institution of Fire Engineers.
- Master’s (MSc) or Doctoral (PhD) degree in a fire-related discipline.
- International experience with fire engineering standards such as IBC, SFPE, and NFPA.
