Regional Finance Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Regional Finance Director based in United Kingdom.

This senior finance leadership role is responsible for strengthening financial strategy, oversight, and operational excellence across a complex international portfolio.

You will provide strategic direction to regional finance teams, ensuring strong financial controls, compliance, and effective resource management.

The role combines global financial leadership with hands-on support for multi-country operations, donor-funded programs, and strategic initiatives.

You will partner with senior leaders, finance professionals, and operational teams to improve decision-making through accurate financial insights.

This position offers the opportunity to influence large-scale programs, strengthen financial systems, and support impactful initiatives across diverse regions.

You will play a key role in building resilient finance functions, developing talent, and driving continuous improvement in a dynamic environment.

Accountabilities

As the Regional Finance Director, you will lead financial management strategy across the region, ensuring strong governance, compliance, and operational effectiveness. You will provide oversight to finance teams, strengthen financial processes, and support leadership teams with insights that enable informed strategic decisions.

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for regional financial management, ensuring alignment with organizational policies, procedures, and donor requirements.
  • Collaborate with finance leaders and regional stakeholders to strengthen financial practices, improve operational efficiency, and support program delivery.
  • Monitor regional financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and develop mitigation strategies to improve financial health.
  • Provide strategic oversight to regional accounting functions, ensuring effective controls, accurate reporting, timely reconciliations, and compliance with financial standards.
  • Support country teams with financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to improve resource allocation and program effectiveness.
  • Review financial reports, audits, and compliance findings while supporting corrective action plans and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on donor regulations, financial policies, and compliance requirements, particularly for complex international funding environments.
  • Support proposal development, budget reviews, cost analysis, and financial aspects of business development activities.
  • Partner with senior leadership teams by providing financial insights, risk analysis, and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Lead recruitment, coaching, mentoring, and development of regional finance team members to strengthen capabilities and performance.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, training, and capacity building across finance teams and operational stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation of new finance procedures, systems, and strategic initiatives across the region.
  • Travel periodically to country offices and field locations to provide financial oversight, support, and capacity development.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced international finance leader with a strong background in managing complex financial operations, donor-funded programs, and multi-country teams. You should combine technical finance expertise with strong leadership, communication, and strategic business partnership skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree, CPA, or equivalent professional certification is a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive international finance management experience, preferably within international development, humanitarian, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Proven experience managing multi-country financial operations, compliance frameworks, and donor-funded projects.
  • Strong knowledge of financial controls, accounting practices, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Experience working with major donor regulations, including US Government and European Union funding requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop finance teams across different locations and cultural environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
  • Experience working in complex, fast-paced, and changing environments, including emergency or field-based contexts.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate insights clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required; additional regional language skills are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including up to 25% of the time.
