About the Role

Wiltshire Council’s Schools Effectiveness Service seeks a high-calibre School Improvement & Excellence Regional Lead to champion systemic educational improvement across primary, secondary, and special schools within Wiltshire. As a senior strategic lead, you will support Headteachers, governors, and leadership teams to:

  • Drive standards and raise child-centred outcomes, with a focus on underperforming schools
  • Support disadvantaged pupils through targeted, data-informed interventions
  • Complement Ofsted and policy-aligned school development goals

This role fosters collaboration with council partners, educators, and local agencies to establish a highly-resourced framework of support, training, and quality assurance.


Core Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the council’s workforce development agenda for school improvement, designing and implementing nationwide training programmes aimed at:
    • Strengthening educational leadership
    • Uplifting teaching quality
    • Embedding inclusive practices
  • Develop robust data analysis to identify underperformance trends, attainment gaps, and intervention priorities by demographic and sector
  • QA monitoring of uplift initiatives and hold schools to account for sustained improvement
  • Monitor early risks indicative of potential underperformance

Operational Excellence

Ideal Candidate Profile

You are an experienced school leader who:

  • Track record of sustained school improvement: longevity in roles supporting raising achievement and headship development, ideallly as a National Leader of Education (NLE) or fill in gaps with embedded contemporary frameworks
  • Pedagogical vision: extensive subject or systemic leadership expertise tailorable to Wiltshire’s needs
  • Diplomatic yet authoritative oral/ written profiles to influence across schools and governing bodies
  • Data-driven: ability to assimilate and communicate complex school level information
  • Inclusive passion: prioritise equity in outcomes across every demographic
