Regional System Engineer (South West)
The Regional System Engineer (South West) will support the delivery of engineering services across STS Defences Secure MOD contracts and naval platform programmes, operating primarily from the Devonport area.
The role is central to establishing and growing the STS Defence presence in the South West, requiring a self-starting individual with a strong military communications background who can operate with high autonomy across a wide range of technical and operational activities.
Duties
The Regional System Engineer (South West) is responsible for:
Primary Duties Field Engineering Support
- Acting as a regionally based (Devonport and South West) resource supporting the resolution of Operational Defects (OPDEFs) across all STS Defence secure MOD Contracts and associated programmes.
- Providing engineering support to RF, SATCOM, WIFI, CEMA and Electronic Warfare (EW) projects as directed.
- Carrying out surveys, installations, test and validation of communications and IT systems including Wi-Fi, CAT6/7, and fibre optic cabling infrastructure in support of RN Welfare based systems installed onboard.
- Providing engineering support to operate and maintain specialised equipment at Fort Tregantle. Responsibility at the Fort will also include management of project deliverables, subcontractors and customer events.
- Providing Out of Hours technical support as required to STS Duty Engineer, particularly when a physical presence in South West based vessels and land establishments is required.
- Deploying across the UK at short notice to support STS Defence activities.
- Deploying on CONDO operations worldwide in support of contractual and operational requirements.
- Taking responsibility for the quality of work carried out and ensuring adherence to Health and Safety policy at all times.

Secondary Duties - Business Development and Growth in Devonport & South West region
- Supporting the establishment and growth of the STS Defence presence in the Devonport area, acting as an ambassador for the company in the South West region.
- Actively engaging in business networking within the local defence and maritime community to raise the profile of STS Defence and identify potential new opportunities.
- Identifying and reporting potential new business opportunities, contract leads and customer requirements to the Business Development team.
- Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, military contacts and industry partners in the South West region to support pipeline development.
- Liaising and communicating effectively with clients, sub-contractors and military personnel as required.
- Reviewing and contributing to internal processes, technical documentation and user guides.
- Undergoing and maintaining professional training in line with company requirements.

Skills/Qualifications
- Demonstrated military or defence communications background, ideally at SNCO equivalent level with experience working in or around naval vessels or shore establishments.
- Practical experience with VHF, UHF and SATCOM communications systems.
- Working knowledge of RF fundamentals including amplifiers, antennas and signal propagation.
- Good understanding of electrical systems and structured cabling including fibre optic, CAT 6 and CAT 7 installations.
- Experience supporting RF, SATCOM, WIFI and CEMA or Electronic Warfare (EW) activities.
- Familiarity with Wi-Fi network installation and configuration.
- Understanding of Health and Safety legislation as it applies to defence engineering environments.
- Commercial awareness and ability to identify local business development opportunities in the South West region.
- Awareness of competitor activity and capability gaps in the South West Region.
- Basic Understanding of how defence contracts and task orders work.
Additional Information
- An in-date UK passport and Category B driving licence holder.
- SECURITY All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level. Additional restrictions may apply on certain defence programmes.
