Regional Underwriting Team Leader

Hybrid working with 60% home-working and 40% York office-based, (plus additional travel as required)

About the role:

We have an opportunity for a Regional Underwriting Team Leader for the Motor & Personal Underwriting Team at NFU Mutual based out of our York office. You’ll lead, manage, and develop a dedicated team to deliver exceptional customer service and achieve positive outcomes for our customers. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that your team meets Service Level Agreements, operational objectives, and regulatory requirements while fostering a high-performing and motivated environment.

You’ll be accountable for recruiting, coaching, and developing your team to ensure they have the skills and behaviors needed to deliver consistent, first-class service. This includes planning, prioritising, and monitoring performance targets, and communicating effectively to meet the objectives of the operational plan.

In this role, you’ll also build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including team members, the wider underwriting teams, Agents, and other NFU Mutual departments.

About you:

You’ll be a results-driven leader with a proven track record of achieving KPIs and objectives. Your ability to build and maintain effective working relationships is second to none.

You’ll bring experience in coaching, training, and providing constructive feedback, with a knack for identifying and implementing process improvements. While knowledge of general insurance principles is desirable, your strengths lie in problem-solving, time management, and effective communication. You’ll also have:

  • Significant and demonstrable experience leading and developing teams.
  • Strong background in a contact centre, customer operations, or service environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of coaching individuals and teams to improve performance.
  • Ability to create a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience of using performance data and MI to drive business results.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer outcomes and operational excellence.
