Registered Nurse (Band 5) – Acute Male Inpatient Mental Health Service
Job Overview
Are you a compassionate and motivated Mental Health Nurse looking to make a real difference in the lives of adults aged 18–70 with acute, complex mental health needs?
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (Band 5) to join our acute male inpatient service. As part of a multidisciplinary team guided by compassion, openness, and respect, you’ll deliver structured ward routines, build therapeutic relationships, and support patients in achieving safe discharge back into the community.
This opportunity is ideal for both newly registered and experienced nurses looking to grow and develop in an acute mental health setting.
Welsh speakers are welcome and encouraged—applicants can submit applications in either English or Welsh without disadvantage.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Maintain clear, accurate nursing records and communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in ward routines, therapeutic interactions, and group activities with the community.
- Administer medication safely in line with Health Board policies.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and effective ward environment.
- Use Restrictive Physical Intervention (RPI) only as a last resort, adhering to training and policy.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing to care reviews, care planning, and safeguarding discussions.
- Support, supervise, and guide healthcare support workers, assistant practitioners, and students, based on experience.
- Participate in service development, ward accreditation, and efficient resource management.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
