Senior Nurse Post – Fixed Term (12 Months), NHS Lanarkshire
About NHS Lanarkshire
We prioritise patient needs and play a vital role in delivering healthcare to:
- A population of 655,000 across rural and urban communities in North and South Lanarkshire.
- Services includes:
- Acute hospital care (3 main sites)
- Integrated primary healthcare and social care through North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships
The Role
This position is part of a multidisciplinary team with key responsibilities:
Core Responsibilities
- Assess care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate patient care programmes.
- Operate independently with no direct supervision (may include teaching/supervising staff/nurse students).
- Ensure high-quality care delivery across all duties (scope may vary by ward/department level of patient dependency).
Staying stagnant after two years:
- Direct, coordinate, and supervise ward/departmental staff to deliver best practice in patient care.
- Cover senior staff roles (charge nurse/team leader, or deputy) when absent.

This is a fixed-term position (12 months). If an existing employee applies, it must be treated as a secondment with explicit manager approval.
Responsibilities – Key Duties
Consistent high-quality care across:
- Patient-centred care assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes.
- Effective communication with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team (essential to share accurate information and address needs).
- Compliance with local and national policies, procedures, guidelines (including PREP protocols).
Requirements – Qualifications & Skills
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse with a current, valid NMC registration.
- Outstanding teamwork ability, self-initiative, integrity.
- Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Capacity to work collaboratively and independently within a multidisciplinary team.
Additional (National Travel Requirements)
- A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence must be held.
