Registered Nurse - Gynaecology Services

Senior Nurse Post – Fixed Term (12 Months), NHS Lanarkshire

About NHS Lanarkshire

We prioritise patient needs and play a vital role in delivering healthcare to:

  • A population of 655,000 across rural and urban communities in North and South Lanarkshire.
  • Services includes:
    • Acute hospital care (3 main sites)
    • Integrated primary healthcare and social care through North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships

The Role

This position is part of a multidisciplinary team with key responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities

  • Assess care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate patient care programmes.
  • Operate independently with no direct supervision (may include teaching/supervising staff/nurse students).
  • Ensure high-quality care delivery across all duties (scope may vary by ward/department level of patient dependency).

Staying stagnant after two years:

  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise ward/departmental staff to deliver best practice in patient care.
  • Cover senior staff roles (charge nurse/team leader, or deputy) when absent.

This is a fixed-term position (12 months). If an existing employee applies, it must be treated as a secondment with explicit manager approval.


Responsibilities – Key Duties

Consistent high-quality care across:

  • Patient-centred care assessment, planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of care programmes.
  • Effective communication with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team (essential to share accurate information and address needs).
  • Compliance with local and national policies, procedures, guidelines (including PREP protocols).

Requirements – Qualifications & Skills

Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with a current, valid NMC registration.
  • Outstanding teamwork ability, self-initiative, integrity.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively and independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Additional (National Travel Requirements)

  • A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence must be held.
