An Exciting Opportunity to Join the Dedicated ICU Team

The intensive care unit at Furness General Hospital is a 6-bedded ICU/HDU caring for level 2 & 3 patients from a variety of specialisms.

Full Support for Your Development

Full support will be given for you to achieve your developmental needs including a supernumerary period. You will receive a Critical Care Developmental pack to work through – a transferable document of competence, to display evidence & training undertaken.

Who Can Apply

ICU experience is preferable but not essential. Experienced or newly qualified Band 5 nurses can apply. Full support for Preceptorship will be given. This is an exciting opportunity not to be missed.

Department Commitment

The department is committed to appraisal, to support continuous education and professional development. You will be required to participate in providing 24-hour cover.

Patient Care

You are expected to care for level 2 and 3 patients.

Hospital Locations

We operate from three main hospitals:

  • Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow
  • Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI)
  • Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal

As well as a number of community health care premises including:

  • Millom Hospital and GP Practice
  • Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe
  • Ulverston Community Health Centre

Services Provided

FGH and RLI:

  • Full range of General Hospital services
  • Emergency Departments
  • Critical/Coronary Care units
  • Various Consultant-led services

  • General Hospital services
  • Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses

All three main hospitals:

  • Range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery
  • Local outreach services and diagnostics from community facilities across Morecambe Bay
