Staff Nurse | Pre-Operative Assessment | Band 5 equivalent salary | Part-Time (22 hours/week) | Permanent | Havant, Hampshire

Spire Portsmouth Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Staff Nurse to join our team on a permanent part-time basis within the Pre-Assessment Unit.

Working alongside a dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will support a broad range of specialties, gaining valuable clinical experience in a modern, well-equipped facility. This role offers a great opportunity to develop your nursing skills and provide world-class care:

📅 Shift: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30

Key Responsibilities

  • Support patient assessment: Help assess patients' health and well-being across challenging caseloads
  • Electronic pre-operative evaluations: Conduct full pre-operative assessments via the digital system
  • Triage & escalation: Identify patients requiring attention and escalate concerns to senior nurses based on admission criteria
  • Comprehensive patient care: Assist in delivering personalised treatments that meet individual health and wellbeing needs
  • Sensitive communication: Handle complex or contentious information effectively
  • Skill development: Foster continuous learning within the team and promote professional growth
  • Safety & service improvement: Contribute to maintaining high standards in health, safety, and service development

Requirements

✅ Qualifications & Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with no restrictions on practice
  • Experience working in an acute care environment
  • Adaptable team player with minimal need for supervision
  • Strong foundation in nursing skills (backed by professional registration)

🔹 Preferred:

  • Background in surgical nursing (or equivalent interest to develop)
  • Familiarity with electronic pre-operative assessment systems
  • Phlebotomy, venepuncture, or ECG skills (or willingness to be trained)
