Are you a qualified nurse or a student nurse due to qualify with a passion for public health and improving outcomes for children and families in Milton Keynes? Would you like to work for a dynamic and innovative School Nursing team?
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and conscientious practitioner to join us within the 0-19 Children’s Universal Health Service.
The Milton Keynes School Nursing Service provides a universal and specialist service to school aged children attending an education provision or being home schooled in Milton Keynes. The service is available all year round, Monday – Friday, 9-5pm, excluding bank holidays.
We are looking for compassionate individuals who can demonstrate excellent communication skills and are able to work as part of a skill mixed team to deliver the Healthy Child Programme (HCP). Alongside your team, you will work with various partner agencies to achieve best health outcomes for school aged children and their families across Milton Keynes.
Previous experience of working in the community is desirable but not essential as you will receive full training and an excellent induction package. In addition, you will receive regular clinical, managerial and safeguarding supervision.
This is a permanent position but may also be an excellent opportunity to gain experience for an individual interested in undertaking a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) course in School Nursing in the future.
Main duties of the job
- Interprofessional working to deliver the Healthy Child Programme and safeguard children
- Managing a clinical caseload
- Implementing and evaluating programmes of care
- Delivering evidence-based health promotion advice
- Undertaking holistic assessments, identifying health needs, parenting capacity and family / environmental factors
- Work closely alongside locality School Nurses undertaking delegated work and also working under own initiative.

Person specification
Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on the United Kingdom NMC Register or a student nurse about to qualify
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of supervision of students
- Paediatric Training or experience
- Children's safeguarding training
- Supervisor or assessor training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Evidence of caseload management and exceptional organisational skills
- Experience of multi- agency working
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with children, young people and families
- Experience of delivering the Healthy Child Programme
- Experience of Children's safeguarding
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates an understanding of the role for which they have applied.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the United Kingdom health child programme
- Able to demonstrate leadership skills
- Excellent verbal, non-verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and ability to use an Communicate through IT packages such as Word, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Excellent record keeping skills/ maintaining electronic clinical records.
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of safeguarding practice, acts and policies
- Experience of using systmone
- Awareness of current Public Health Guidance
