Registered Paediatric Nurse
Band 5 Paediatric Nurse – Puffin Ward, Royal Derby Hospital
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Band 5 Paediatric Nurse to join the Puffin Ward team at the Royal Derby Hospital.
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated registered children’s nurses to deliver exceptional care on our Paediatric Ward, which accommodates 0–18-year-olds across medical, surgical, and mental health pathways. The ward currently has up to 31 beds (with capacity adjustable to demand) and operates a 7-day weekly service, including bank holidays, with a flexible shift pattern (rotating between day and night).
Work is collaborative, with strong support from the Emergency Department (ED) and a commitment to family-centred care, empowering parents/carers to actively participate in their child’s treatment with guidance from nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver round-the-clock care planning for medical, surgical, and mental health patients (0–18 years)
- Conduct regular observations and monitor vital signs
- Administer medication and treatments safely and accurately
- Undertake risk assessments and ensure safeguarding protocols are followed
- Implement family-centred care, fostering partnership with parents/carers
- Work flexibly across day, night, and bank holiday shifts as required

Requirements
- Registered as an RN Child Branch or RSCN with current registration
- Proven paediatric experience
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment
- Commitment to delivering compassionate, open, and outstanding care
