Registered Staff Nurse – Nursing | Priory Burston House

Department: Nursing Location: Burston House, Diss, Suffolk Compensation: £38,619 per year (37.5-hour full-time role) Requirements:

  • Full driving license (mandatory)

About the Role & Organisation

Priory Burston House is recruiting for a Registered Staff Nurse to join their Rehabilitation and Recovery Ward team.

Old Location: This specialist facility provides Level 2 rehabilitation for:

  • Male patients with a learning disability
  • Adults with complex mental health needs, including autism and personality disorders

Support is adapted to individual needs using personalised care plans, proven therapies and evidence-based treatment approaches.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively within a caring, multidisciplinary team to support patient wellbeing and recovery
  • Assist with care planning and standards: Work alongside qualified staff to ensure tailored assessment, implementation and evaluation of individual nursing care plans
  • Provide structured support to patients, including routine care tasks, routine activities and rehabilitation exercises
  • Mentor and communicate with patients, their families and carers about care plans, progress or concerns
  • Critical observation and assessment: Monitor changes in patient condition proactively, updating care plans accordingly
  • Maintain integrity and professionalism in patient care records, adhering to **patient confidentiality and mental capacity legislation
  • Address complaints or feedback, advocate for patients while adhering to protocols and organisational practices
  • Contribute to multi-agency liaison within the rehabilitation pathway

Essential Criteria

  • Qualification & Registration: Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with an up-to-date NMC registration
  • Experience:
    • Completed NMC preceptorship programme and accepted the NMC Code
    • Minimum six months’ post-registration work in a Mental Health or Learning Disabilities setting
    • Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development in speciality-related areas
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • In-depth knowledge of NMC guidance, standards and frameworks
    • Demonstrated empathy, resilience and adaptability for high-dependency environments
    • Strong communication (verbal & written), including escalation techniques and managing family concerns
    • Creativity to adapt approaches where patients display complex needs
    • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (doctors, therapies, social work, carers) and oversee patient transitions

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience within Low Secure or Learning Disabilities services
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care principles
  • Knowledge of risk assessment frameworks in Perkins and recovery-based models
