Registered Veterinary Nurse
Location & Contract
Market Cross Veterinary Clinic (Dalkeith)
- Contract: Part-time (25 hours per week)
- Shifts: Three 8-hour shifts (Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays), plus one in four Saturday mornings (8:30–12:30).
About the Practice
Market Cross is a first-opinion veterinary clinic specialising in small animal care. Established in 2003, the clinic features:
- State-of-the-art facilities: Digital X-ray, multi-parameter monitors, ultrasound, video endoscopy, and surgeries for soft tissue, orthopaedics, and ophthalmology.
- Nurse training hub: Active mentoring and hands-on learning opportunities.
- Low-stress environment: Focused on reducing anxiety for patients, supported by a calm, caring team of 2 nurses, a State Qualified Veterinary Nurse (SVN), and a Patient Care Assistant (PCA).
- Team culture: Friendly, collaborative, with regular social activities beyond work.

The Role
As a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), you’ll play a core role in patient and veterinary team support at this welcoming, care-driven clinic. No two days are the same—your responsibilities may include:
- Patient care:
- Handling anaesthetics
- Providing technical support during consultations (nurse consults)
- Monitoring post-operative and medical recovery for surgical and veterinary cases
- Clinical workflow:
- Facilitating the best possible outcomes across all areas of patient care
- Maintaining high care standards in equipment, sanitation, and practice administration
- Collaborating with vets, nurses, and support staff to deliver exceptional service
- Team & environment:
- Strengthening client-patient relationships through clear, compassionate communication (both verbal and written)
- Fostering a positive, inclusive team culture within the nursing team
- Learning & growth:
- Taking advantage of ongoing professional development opportunities through CVS:
- Full-spectrum training (e.g., handling anesthetics, integrating into consult therapies)
- Advanced nursing qualifications
- CVS Knowledge Hub, BSAVA library access, and peer-supported training

Where: In Dalkeith, Edinburgh commutable from:
Midlothian (Livingston, Loanhead), Fife (Kirkcaldy, Dunfermline, Cupar), Edinburgh/Falkirk (Livingston, Stirling, Linlithgow, Prestonpans), Lothians (Dunbar, Rosyth, Musselburgh, North Berwick, Queensferry, Meadowbank).
About You

- Skillset: Hands-on with anaesthetics, medical nursing/contract compliance, surgical support; proficient with absolute attention to detail for patient safety.
- Attitude:
