Registration Service Advisor

Fixed Term, Full Time Annual Salary: £25,959 Location: Chelmsford Working Style: Fixed-base worker Closing Date: 5th July 2026

Note: Available as a fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity for up to 12 months.


The Role

At the heart of the Registration Service, this varied and rewarding opportunity allows you to support key public service milestones. As a Registration Service Advisor, you'll occupy a central role within a dynamic team, delivering essential services such as:

  • Managing marriage bookings and citizenship ceremonies
  • Supporting statutory registrations (e.g., births, deaths)
  • Ensuring data integrity and confidentiality

Every day offers new challenges, demanding a proactive, flexible approach. Your responsibilities include:

  • Handling customer enquiries across multiple channels (face-to-face, phone, email, digital).
  • Maintaining accurate records while upholding discretion and professionalism.
  • Supporting customers through sensitive transitions, such as major life changes.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values continuity of service, and seeks to develop expertise in statutory public administration.

The team is dedicated to improving lives through person-centred outcomes—whether assisting couples, supporting new families, or welcoming newcomers to the UK through citizenship ceremonies.

As a Registration Service Advisor, your impact will shape lives directly:

  • Be the first point of support for customers navigating critical services.

Minimum requirements: Essential:

  • Experience in administration environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and digital communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Commitment to continuous service improvement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide comprehensive advice on registration functions, including:
    • Births
    • Deaths
    • Civil partnership/marriage announcements
    • Citizenship ceremonies
  • Manage all customer engagement channels (telephone, in-person, email, digital platforms) with empathy and efficiency.
  • Ensure accuracy and security of documents and legislative compliance in records.
  • Assist individuals during emotional legal proceedings with tact and professionalism.
  • Process bookings, payments, and applications, confirming deadlines and availability.
  • Collaborate with:
    • Registrars
    • Healthcare teams
    • External partners
  • Uphold safeguarding, data protection, and equality principles rigorously.
  • Achieve team goals while remaining adaptable to shifting demands.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legislative procedures via training.

Requirements

We value the following experiences:

  • Basic qualification: RQF Level 2 (e.g., GCSEs) or equivalent (e.g., experience).
  • Ready to progress: Commitment to develop skills within a well-structured team.
  • Workplace adaptability—thrive in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Technical confidence: MS Office competence is crucial.
  • Customer service achievements—evidence of fully supporting client needs.
  • Statutory service experience: Willingness to engage with evolving processes.
  • Mental fortitude to collaborate constructively with partner organisations.
