Vision, ethos, values

Our vision is to equip the whole people of God for the whole mission of God today, within a community ethos that is Christ-centred, Hope-filled, and Mission-orientated. Led by the Dean, we provide high quality formation and training for lay and ordained ministers in the Church of England in partnership with Durham University’s Common Awards, as well as training for Children, Young People, and Families' ministers to enable people to inhabit a range of vocations with confidence. There are growing numbers of non-ministerial students since Emmanuel was registered with the Office for Students in May 2025 who are choosing to undertake university validated programmes with us that are academically rigorous whilst being sympathetic to confessional theology. The College is jointly owned by the Bishops and Dioceses of Blackburn, Carlisle, Chester, Liverpool, Manchester, and Sodor and Man. Of our c.200 students, about two thirds are preparing to serve as priests, deacons, and licensed lay ministers in the Church of England. Others are training for ministry amongst children, young people, and families (CYPF) and some are studying to grow in their knowledge and understanding of theology and the bible, to develop and enhance their critical thinking skills, to improve employability, or because they want to be effective Christian leaders in other contexts. Our students represent a wide range of church traditions, and we celebrate the best of this variety whilst remaining committed to the historic Christian faith affirmed by the ecumenical councils. Excellence, curiosity, hospitality, integrity, and rootedness are the values by which we approach and organise our work. These qualities are expected of all members of our team, and we seek to encourage them throughout our community life. Our team is prayerful, positive, and enthusiastic and committed to resourcing the mission of the Church in the northwest and beyond.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
