Regulated Asset Economist

An exciting opportunity is available for a Regulated Asset Economist to support a major energy transition programme. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working on the development of innovative low-carbon energy solutions. This is a 12-month PAYE contract with an ASAP start, based in Aberdeen, operating under a hybrid working arrangement requiring four days per week in the office.

Job Description - Regulated Asset Economist

The role will act as the owner of economic models, analysis and value optimisation insights, ensuring robust, auditable and decision-quality outputs are provided to senior stakeholders and project teams. The position will involve developing and maintaining complex economic models, including regulated asset base models, ensuring alignment with evolving policy, regulatory requirements and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and own economic models to support energy transition projects, including regulated asset base economic models.
  • Provide detailed economic, financial and unit cost analysis to support project commercialisation and strategic decision-making.
  • Deliver deterministic and probabilistic economic analysis to assess project value, risks and opportunities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support high-quality, timely business decisions.
  • Perform discounted and undiscounted unit cost analysis, including Levelised Cost of Abatement (LCOA) assessments, to benchmark opportunities and support optimisation.
  • Undertake whole-life cost assessments, Net Present Value (NPV) analysis and financial evaluations.
  • Ensure economic models are accurate, transparent, robust and fully auditable to support investment cases and regulatory engagement.
  • Monitor developments across the energy transition landscape, including technology, policy, regulation and investor sentiment, incorporating relevant changes into economic assessments.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulators, commercial stakeholders and external interfaces.
  • Support organisational readiness for future regulatory phases, including negotiations, price controls and audits.
  • Communicate complex economic analysis clearly and effectively to senior leadership teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Undertake additional duties as required to support project objectives.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
