Join our Technical Team and play a key role in shaping the future of legal regulation.
As a Regulatory Adviser (internally known as Technical Adviser) within our Authorisation team, you'll provide expert legal and regulatory advice across the organisation. Authorisation is one of the SRA's largest operational teams, responsible for admitting and authorising firms and individuals, managing the annual practising certificate renewal, and handling over 170,000 applications each year.
In this role, you will
- Review advice requests/documents to deliver high-quality decisions, reports, and advice, using your extensive knowledge of regulation and statute
- Mentor and coach colleagues, influencing risk-based decision-making and regulatory approaches
- Design and deliver technical training and contribute to policy development
- Work on diverse projects, from implementing new regulations to producing documents that withstand legal scrutiny before tribunals and courts.
This is an excellent opportunity to apply your regulatory expertise, shape policy, and support the profession as part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
