Role Overview
Crossing Hurdles is sourcing a Regulatory Compliance Specialist with a strong accounting background to support Verita AI’s data pipeline work. In this role, you will apply your domain expertise to:
- Evaluate AI-generated outputs
- Identify where AI reasoning falls short
- Translate real accounting workflows into structured training data
This is a long-term, fully remote freelance engagement suited to experienced accounting and compliance professionals who value flexibility and precision work.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, reasoning quality, and domain correctness across accounting and compliance workflows
- Translate real-world accounting processes into structured tasks used to train and improve AI models
- Identify gaps, edge cases, and reasoning errors that require domain-level expertise to catch
- Document assumptions, thought processes, and decision logic clearly in written form
- Provide structured feedback that engineering and research teams use to refine AI systems

Domain Focus
Expertise required across:
- Month-end and year-end close processes
- Journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Financial reporting and compliance
- GAAP and IFRS standards and application
- Audit procedures and internal controls
Requirements
- 5 to 8+ years of experience in accounting, audit, financial reporting, or regulatory compliance
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with IFRS is an asset
- Experience with one or more ERP systems, including NetSuite, SAP, or QuickBooks
- CPA preferred; equivalent credentials and experience will be considered
- Ability to articulate technical reasoning and judgment calls clearly in writing
Work Style & Expectations
- All work completed asynchronously via Slack and internal tools
- No fixed schedule; meetings are minimal
- Minimum commitment: 10 hours per week (15–20+ hours preferred)
- Self-managed timing; reliable output cadence essential
- Hours tracked via Insightful

Compensation
- Hourly rate: $100–$125 USD (depending on experience)
- Payments processed fortnightly via Deel
- Engagement type: Long-term freelance
- Strong performers may transition to retainer arrangements
