Rehoming and Welfare Assistant

Team: Centre Location: Nottingham Work Pattern: 35 hours per week, inclusive of weekends and bank holidays Salary: Up to £23,943 per year Contract: Permanent

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain cat pens, including litter trays, across the centre’s different sections
  • Feed and provide medical or behavioural care for cats as required, including handling during treatment periods
  • Present a professional, friendly, and welcoming image to customers, visitors, and volunteers
  • Assist with on-site and off-site veterinary runs, including driving the Cats Protection vehicle
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers to guide and support them in cat care duties
  • Help schedule, prepare, and facilitate rehoming viewings, information sessions, and successful adoptions

About the Team

Our adoption and rehoming centre in Nottingham cares for thousands of cats annually until they find their forever homes. The team includes:

  • Centre Manager
  • Deputy Centre Manager
  • Rehoming and Welfare Assistants
  • Receptionists

Requirements

  • An full, manual driving licence is essential due to vans’ needs
  • Strong communication skills with a high level of empathy for animals and humans
  • Excellent customer service experience, particularly in public-facing roles
  • Hands-on experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, medicating, and handling cats with an understanding of their welfare needs
  • Resilience to manage distressing or emotionally challenging situations with professionalism
  • A positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
  • Adherence to health and safety standards and ability to perform manual handling tasks when required
